Bring a used machine back to service-ready condition through our certified workshop network. Tied to the inspection report. Fixed quote. Locked timeline. Funds protected by escrow.
What makes our refurbishment offer different from a standard workshop quote.
No refurbishment without a Heavy Buddy inspection report first. The scope of work is built on the certified diagnostic — no guesswork, no surprise extras.
The refurbishment quote, the recommended workshop and the calendar of milestones are contractually binding. Slippages are penalised — workshop side, never client side.
Whenever possible, the workshop is in the machine's country of departure, country of arrival, or a neighbouring country. We minimise machine moves.
From the inspection report to the recommissioned machine on your site.
100% of the refurbishment cost is held in escrow. Two clean tranches.
Released to the workshop on signature of the refurbishment contract — covers parts sourcing and the first phases of the work.
Released after final inspection by the same Heavy Buddy inspector who issued the initial report. Functional tests, photos and updated report attached.
We do not subcontract blindly. Every workshop in our network is vetted.
Certification criteria — a workshop must pass all of these to join:
Public ranking. Each workshop has a dedicated profile page on the platform, with realisations gallery, certifications, machine families covered, and client ratings. Heavy Buddy never hides anything from the client.
Itemised quote — accept all, or only the sub-systems you want.
You can accept the engine line and the hydraulics, and skip the paint job — the quote is fully itemised. The certified outcome covers only what was refurbished.
If you choose to use your own workshop or do the work yourself, the Heavy Buddy quote is void and the refurbishment cannot be certified by us. The choice is yours.
Transparency by default — you see what is happening in real time.
What is covered and for how long after the machine leaves the workshop.
We pick the workshop to minimise machine moves — moving a 30-tonne machine costs money and risks.
Order of preference:
Outside these three options, we discuss it with you case-by-case. We prefer flexibility to a strict rule, but we always try to minimise total transport.
Typical durations and what happens if the workshop slips.
2 to 4 weeks workshop time, ex-transport.
6 to 10 weeks workshop time, ex-transport.
10 to 16 weeks workshop time, ex-transport. Includes large sub-system overhauls and full painting.
Add 8 weeks on top of the base refurbishment for CE re-certification, VGP and railway authority approval (EPSF, EBA, ORR).
1% per week of delay is automatically deducted from the workshop margin — written into the contract from day one. Heavy Buddy acts as the arbiter and applies the deduction. We do not pay for a workshop running late — the workshop does.
Sometimes the workshop opens a sub-system and finds a defect that the inspection could not see from the outside.
If a new defect is discovered during the refurbishment, the workshop issues a change order with the additional scope and cost. Heavy Buddy applies a 0% margin on the change order — you pay the workshop's actual cost, plus the workshop's normal margin. We do not double-charge.
You approve or reject the change order before any extra work starts. The original contract continues either way.
Quality dispute resolution — fast, neutral, with skin in the game on both sides.
If the final inspection reveals work that does not match the refurbishment quote, the inspector and the Heavy Buddy Technical Director (Titouan) jointly decide the resolution. The default outcome is a workshop re-intervention at the workshop's cost.
Cost split of the re-intervention:
What we charge and why.
Heavy Buddy applies a 15% margin on top of the workshop quote. This covers:
No hidden fees. The 15% is shown on the quote.
